Matthew and kelsie’s moody cabin engagement session was filled with adventure, SO much laughter and of course- intimacy. Kelsie and Matthew had been together a LONG time before deciding to tie the knot. Kelsie is such a creative dreamer and whimsical goddess that has the most adventurous spirit. She is a dancer at heart, which you wont’ be surprised about when you see their engagement session. Matthew is such a caring soul. He served our country in the military and now serves others by caring for people as a paramedic.
When Kelsie and Matthew first contacted me about their iceland elopement, I was ready to pack my bags that day. You could say we were all a little TOO excited. Within probably 4 days of having the initial idea to elope in Iceland, we all booked our tickets. Though, we were forgetting that COVID was continuing to get worse and so were travel restrictions. As the date approached closer and closer, we realized that we were going to need to postpone trekking to Iceland, but that we could still make this shoot EPIC.
We decided that a rustic little cabin in a little nook of Vermont was the next best option. This cabin had everything they had wanted Iceland to be. Secluded. Filled with Nature’s best scenery. Romantic. Adventurous. Whimsical.
You can find the little cabin we stayed in here. It was so adorable and filled with wonderful surprises all around. Kelsie found it on a site called Hip Camp. If you’ve never heard of it and you’re adventurous souls like these two, you should absolutely check it out. It’s filled with camping to glamping experiences all over the globe for cheap prices.
We danced as the sun set, exchanged stories of how we met our significant others + cooked pasta by the fire. Our host even came up and offered us some home grown green beans from the garden. How cool is that?!
Also sidenote- but if you really want to get to know your photographer, have him/her camp with you. We literally got to know eachother better than any other couple i’ve ever done an engagement shoot with + just think, you won’t be strangers on your day of. Please bring me all the adventure photo couples from now on!
After dinner, Kelsie and Matthew decided that they’d continue on with their night like they would any other- with Kelsie reading to Matthew while drinking some wine. As a photographer, I couldn’t ask for anything more than couples to be their absolute selves during their engagement shoot and these two set the bar pretty dang high for that. So unapologetically themselves and I LOVED it.
After documenting their love all day, we decided to put the camera down and play cards + dominoes. Has anyone ever played Mexican train? Apparently it’s super popular and I’d never played. Super easy to learn and SO much fun. Finally, it got late enough we told ourselves we should probably go to bed (since we had decided on pursuing a sunrise shoot early the next morning).
The sun fell and then rised and we got up for the view that we were expecting to be filled with sun rays and golden skies. Little did we know, we weren’t going to get that, but we were going to get something a little more magical and unexpected.
Kelsie and Matthew- thank you for being such troopers. No matter what life threw at us, you two were ready to accept it and roll with it. I absolutely cannot wait to photograph your small intimate elopement next year with all of your closest ones.
I’m Lexi! I am passionate about documenting eloping couples all over the globe, in a place that’s special to you. My approach to your day is as honest as you experience it + less of the stiff stuff. I’d love to hear what you’re dreaming up for your wedding day!
