If you’re looking for a session location for your Alaska Engagement session or elopement, look no further. Eklutna Lake in Alaska is absolutely breathtaking. Ekultna Lake is your perfect picturesque destination elopement photography location. This is a location often overlooked by even Alaska Photographers and is so underrated.
During September, this lake was just starting to sprout some color, which made for an insanely colorful Fall backdrop. Alaska is one of the first states to experience Fall, with it being one of the furthest North + getting a cold front before any other state. Eklutna Lake In Alaska provides a reflection on the water when you can find it at the perfect time
I would suggest going to the lake either early in the morning (like these photos) or right before sundown. The chances of others being around during sunset are likely, so if you’re wanting the location to yourself, you may want to arrive here at sunrise or just after. The beach is fairly large, but if there are a few people there, it will feel crowded.
There is a fee when you arrive. It may change, but it was $5 for entry in September. The park entrance station is closed on Sundays, but of course you’re encouraged to pay the entry fee by self pay at the station!
You can also camp here if you are boondock camping or traveling around the state when you’re here (which most are). You can also spruce up your engagement session by adding kayaking as an activity, which would look stunning in pictures + add some variety. You can look into the kayak rentals here.
If you’d like to do an engagement session or elopement at the lake and another location, thunderbird Falls is your spot! With this waterfall only being about 2 miles away, you can do this all in a couple of hours + get so much variety with your photographer! Chugach State park is also close by + such a great option. There are many options in the park, so I won’t get into these, but if you just research Chugach State Park, you’ll see a LOT of options to either hike or drive to.
Alaska is incredibly gorgeous, but the state is so vast + so overwhelmingly large. This is a great photo location near Anchorage + keeps you close to commercialization if needed. Many Alaskan Elopement Photographers will suggest you drive 5+ hours for the “best” view, but in my biased opinion, this is one of the best views in Alaska.
As an elopement photographer who has great knowledge of the Alaska Elopement spots, you’re in for a treat with this one.
