Dealing With COVID-19 This Wedding Season And What to Expect

We’re all in this together. This is an extremely uneasy and unnerving time. There’s so much uncertainty. You’ve planned so much of your wedding day, have waited almost your entire countdown and then this COVID-19 wrench gets thrown in the plans. The good news is… the wedding industry is here for you.

If you think about it, all your vendors got into this business because they thrive off of making dreams come true. They hear a wedding vision and get so excited at the thought of executing it. We thrive under pressure. Making alterations and adapting to weird situations are actually kinda our jam. So lean into this craziness, trust the process and over-communicate with your vendors. Trust the process. Your vendors will adapt and your wedding WILL still be amazing and you need to keep reminding yourself of that.

What do I do about my 2020 Summer Wedding?

It’s hard to know whether to postpone or keep your dates as this pandemic subsides. I would recommend reaching out to your vendors and just begin communicating your uneasiness about your date, so a contingency plan can be formed as soon as possible. Keep in mind, you do not need to postpone your wedding fully to have this plan in place with vendors. Talk through new options, look at new dates and begin to see what’s available.

As new social distancing rules as well as max number of people are being announced, I’d already begin coming up with a plan A, B and C with vendors. My recommendation is to either start a group chat/email chain or google doc with vendors so they can all work as a team to collaborate to still make your day go as planned. We’re here for you. When should I postpone until?

As a wedding photographer, I know many of my 2021 dates are already filling up as are many other vendors with the already far- ahead planners followed by this pandemic, encouraging a lot of brides to move their dates to 2021.

I’m actually recommending you do the opposite. I recommend you KEEP your date sometime within the year of 2020, whether that is moving it to Fall or Winter or during the middle of the week in late Summer/early Fall. Why do I suggest this instead of pushing to 2021? Not only is this calendar year freeing up for many vendors, but you’ve already waited almost your entire countdown in anticipation for your big day and another year sounds like a LONG time to wait after that much anticipation.

The pandemic has financially hurt a lot of us vendors already. By pushing out another year, it physically takes that income away from vendors for at least another year, leaving them empty handed all of 2020 due to many couples deciding to reschedule, so if you have a chance, please consider rescheduling or postponing your day to a weekday wedding. Many vendors may be offering discounts solely due to the fact of trying to fill their schedules and provide relief to these couples who’ve been affected by COVID-19.
